Sizing-Sauna Guidelines

Designed with Craftsmanship. Built for the Way You Live.

Proper sauna sizing is one of the most important decisions in the design process. A well-planned sauna isn’t just about capacity—it’s about comfort, flow, and how the space will be used over time. Whether you’re building for personal recovery or entertaining guests, thoughtful sizing ensures a refined, long-term experience.

Determining Capacity & Use

Solo or Couple Use
For personal use or couples, a compact sauna delivers efficiency without sacrificing comfort.

  • Recommended size: 4’ x 4’ or 4’ x 6’

  • Ideal for daily use, quick heat-up times, and limited spaces

  • Clean bench layouts with focused heat distribution

Family Use
A mid-sized sauna offers flexibility for families while maintaining an intimate feel.

  • Recommended size: 6’ x 6’

  • Accommodates 3–4 users comfortably

  • Allows for multi-level benching and relaxed seating

Group Use
Designed for shared experiences, group saunas require additional space for comfort and movement.

  • Minimum size: 8’ x 6’

  • Supports 4 or more users

  • Optional sliding or removable lower bench for stretching, mobility work, or yoga-based recovery

Large Group & Entertaining
For larger gatherings or luxury retreat settings, a spacious hot room allows for elevated design and layout options.

  • Recommended sizes: 8’ x 8’ or 8’ x 10’

  • Expansive bench configurations including L-shaped, row, or U-shaped benches

  • Ideal for social sessions, commercial use, or premium residential builds

Changing & Cooldown Areas

A refined sauna experience extends beyond the hot room. Including a designated cooldown or changing area enhances comfort and usability.

  • Add a minimum of 3’ x 4’ to the structure

  • Provides space to cool down, transition between sessions, and change comfortably

  • Essential for contrast therapy setups and year-round use

Porch & Deck Integration

Incorporating a porch or deck adds both function and architectural presence.

  • Protects entry from weather

  • Creates a natural transition space for removing footwear

  • Enhances the overall visual balance of the structure

  • Plan for at least a 2’ roof or deck overhang for proper coverage

Built With Intention

Every sauna is a balance of form and function. Proper sizing allows for better airflow, optimal heat circulation, and a layout that supports how the space is truly used. When designed correctly, a sauna becomes more than a wellness feature—it becomes a permanent extension of the home.
